The real danger burst from one turbulent clump. Six colors of energy flew, sparking, cracking and slamming bodies. Every wizard in the battle was dressed in black leather, topped by a colored vest—none of them blue. Where was Coral?
Ty reabsorbed his simple energy balls and conjured his gel. Running forward, he raised a hand, palm out, and flushed gel over the closest fighter. She froze under the magical isolator. He pivoted and thrust gel at a green warlock, a red witch and a golden warlock in quick succession.
That left only a violent battle of two against one, but that one blasted with a shimmering orange stronger than the others combined.
Ty zeroed in on the orange super-wizard. He turned—
Spike.
Ty shot silver gel. Spike stiffened, his arm extended in a throw. The gel coated his body, covering his arm last. It flashed orange. Yellow sparks erupted, turned to liquid and dribbled like pus from his fingers.
His opponents hesitated and then continued to attack him.
Spells, can’t they see Spike is defenseless? Ty had no choice but to also gel them. One was Tiger, the other Octo.
He spun, prepared to blast again, but few people were still moving in the quiet arena, and none were blasting.
Where was Coral? Where was Dave? Ty scanned upward and spotted his brother, who immediately pointed to the far side of the silver-coated fighters. Ty ran.
Coral lay sprawled on the ground. Someone bent over her. Who was—
“Stop that guy,” Dave yelled. “He’s draining her.”
