It’s #BookQW and Cor’s chance to stay is ‘tight’.
More from Chapter 10:
In a stage whisper that carried, Fee said, “I still say there is a distinct need for caution with this foreign lad.”
Cor’s shoulders tightened, but Fern’s mum smiled at the small wizard. “When is your next break? Perhaps you should get off the isle for a look around the rest of the world. It’d give you a better perspective on today’s youth.”
“Bah!” Fee spun into a sparking tizzy again. “The rest of the world amounts to naught when it comes to protecting our precious isle. Tha’ includes the portal to the human world that you so carelessly keep.”
They had a portal like that here?
Fee stopped before Fern’s mum. “Perhaps I should show you exactly where your portal defenses canna stand against the invasion of those from the human world who seek to harm you and the heir who means so much to the honorable Lady Lark.”
Maybe Fern’s mum wasn’t such a nutter after all—she was both open-minded and able to manage the Watcher. Cor peered at Fern. “You? He’s talking about you, the heir witch?”

On a personal note:
Last week, we had a last-minute invitation to go sailing, and took the opportunity to travel three days up the coast of Massachusetts to Maine. It was thrilling and tiring, and we’re very glad we accepted.
We joined our friend Jon in moving his newly purchased 24 foot Chuck Paine ‘Carol’ sailboat. The days started at 4:30 AM.
Jon gave us lessons in navigation, reading the coast and sailing, all of which will come in handy as I continue writing my Windborne series.
It’s impossible here to show all of the trip, so a few highlights: Off the coast of New Hampshire, we toured through the Isles of Shoals to view the birds and sea life. The White Island Lighthouse was surrounded by gulls and terns.
And we spotted a few seals! As much as I’d like to show off the sea birds we saw, between the boat movement and the birds skittering off, photographing them with my phone in a waterproof, tethered case was a challenge. We did add to our life lists!
I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed the evenings and early mornings in the harbors. It’s a peaceful time before the business of the day. I wish we’d had more time, but we’re grateful for this experience.
