We times a trip west to be able to stop along the Nebraska Flyway and view the sandhill cranes as they stopped during they migration north to refuel in the field along the Platte River. Seeing and hearing thousands of cranes converge is an amazing experience.
We camped in Windmill State Recreation Area, Gibbon, Nebraska, just north of I-80 Exit 285. These views come from there and the viewing platform 1.5 miles south at the river crossing.
