Texas Wildflowers

This spring we visited the hill country of Texas during the spring wildflower blooms.

It’s hard to capture in a few photographs the stunning beauty of the roadsides bursting with color, due to the highway beautification efforts of Lady Bird Johnson in the 1960s. Ahead of her time, Lady Bird Johnson promoted seeding the nation’s highways, which her home state of Texas maintains to continue her legacy.

Here are some of my favorites from Palmeto State Park near Lulling, Texas.

Galardia, or Blanket Flower

Texas Paintbrush

Rain Lily

Onion family

Delphinium

Evening Primrose and Vervain

Prickly Pear Cactus

Another nearly-natural feature in the park was a stone pavilion built by the CCC workers in the 1930s. It seems to rise naturally from the ground.
