It’s #bookqw and Mac has come a-‘part’.

More from my story, All Spun Up, with roommates Kenzie and Mac:

“Nope.” I laughed, mostly in relief she hadn’t refused, as she had a casual pizza invite last week. “No way you could, not after that buildup.” Good. I’d take her for doughnuts. Then I’d suggest a hike in the Park… Shoot! Park reservations. I snapped my fingers.

She looked up. “Something wrong?”

Already, Kenzie Cooper knew my habits. In vet training, I’d had to stop cursing—a common practice on the ranch, but unacceptable with paying clients—so I’d begun snapping my fingers instead. “Tough client expected today.” I thought fast. “A cat. I like cats, mind you, but not teeth bared and swiping.”

“Gotcha. I love cats.” With a glance to her watch, she straightened and licked the spoon.

My mouth parted. I yearned to taste her lips.

I sat abruptly, snatched a running shoe and hoisted my foot onto the bench for distraction. Stick to the conversation. Kenzie was easy to talk to, hardworking and considerate of everyone. Over a couple of weeks, my appreciation of her cute looks had grown to liking her as a person…far beyond a hookup.

Kenzie washed her yogurt things, grabbed her pack, said, “Gotta run,” and left before I’d even tied my laces.

I let my head fall back against the seat. “Bye,” I whispered and blew her a kiss.

Maybe one day, my sorely out-of-practice lips would know what kissing felt like again. I smiled. Kenzie said yes!
