It’s #BookQW and expressions ‘count’ when Eve reads feelings.

More from Eve in Chapter 6:

“Can you find that list?” I gestured to the computer.

His eyes widened. “You didn’t use that one to search, did you?”

“Er, no, not yet.”

He breathed a sigh of relief. “This appears to be a somewhat…touchy situation. We’ll use this one.” He switched on an older unit he constantly tore apart so he could fiddle with the innards. “I have adjusted mine to be untraceable when going onto the Docga network.”

Was that necessary? “Well, I’m glad to turn this over.”

Evard swept his arm to his waist and dipped into a bow. “At your service, my revered run-mate.”

I rolled my eyes. “Just get on it. I’ll see what’s for lunch.”

By the time I carried back a tray with a loaf of bread and bowls of carrot-leek soup, Evard was frowning. Not his usual countenance when matching wits with electronics.

“Thought I knew exactly where that old notice would be,” he muttered. “Someone’s deleted it, and no one has updated the usual contact list. Peculiar, when they manage hundreds of B-runs.”

“Which they are clearly happy to do, transfers and all, while ignoring the hornwort growth that will end our reason for being on this planet.” I set out the food and served myself while his large fingers tapped away.

“There’s this old newscast. It had links…but nothing. Right, I’ll try another. Competition is good for something.”

A new screen lit up. “Bloody hyphae!” Evard’s flailing arm barely missed me. “A native news station has both the expected quintad and the actual triad members who arrived and currently serve. No photos, but names and numbers. Now that our Cyrem’s using porta, perhaps I should consult his sources more often. What’s that ID number?”
