It’s #BookQW and Cor takes honesty too far of ‘course’.

More from Chapter 7:

“Does anyone work for her?” Cor asked Fern while he drove.

“Lady Pina? No, not regularly.”

“That’s the favor I ask of you in return.” He paused longer than he needed to at an intersection. “I want to work for Lady Pina in the ancient pine groves.”

“I can’t give you that. It’s not my habitat.”

“You are a habitat manager on the Isle of Giuthas, correct? Witch of the Meadows?”

“Heir to the Witch.” She tapped her name tag. “Doesn’t mean I…I’d have to check around before I made any decisions for the island.”

“But you know the people who do?”

She shifted in her seat. “Of course I know them—”

“That’s more than I do. You can convince them to let me work in the Scots pines. Lady Pina needs to train someone to take over for her. Let’s be frank, she doesn’t have long to get her act together. You’ll be doing this crowd a real favor by getting things all set for the day she dies.”

“That’s rude,” she snapped.

“Maybe, but you can’t say it’s not true. You all are going to be up a tree, literally, when she dies, and no one knows the ways of her habitat.” He knew that from an emergency the foundation had been called in on.
