It’s #BookQW – don’t we all ‘dream’ of an exciting adventure?

More from Chapter 10:

Ty wasn’t the raw beginner Coral had expected. Not once had he called a line a rope. He’d even properly referred to the line controlling the mainsail as the mainsheet. He’d handled the Sunfish’s sail and tiller with no mistakes—or instruction—in his helmsman position opposite her.

“You’re doing well,” she said.

“Thanks, but even I know that’s not saying much in this light breeze. Sad, ’cause I’d like to do some planing in these lower waves.”

She cocked a brow. “In your—” She slapped a hand to her mouth, stopping the rest: dreams, sailor boy.

Now he was peering at her. “Pardon me?”

How could he possibly think they could balance the boat and a full sail on their first time out? One slip while skimming the waves that fast and…nice, be nice, he saved you! “In your, er, steps for planing, uh, tell me what you’d do.”

“On a reach like this, I hold the tiller steady and wait for a gust to sustain. Then I catch it with the sail.”

“You understand the starting point. Go on.”

“When the boat accelerates, I trim the sail to keep it full, hike out and ride it.”

Well…exactly. He might be ready for planing after all. “Where do I have to be, as your crewman?”

“Same side and leaning out with me.” At her gesture to continue, Ty added, “While moving aft to balance us.”

“Good, but not too far, or we’ll drag the stern. But none of this will happen in these variable gusts. You’re too much of an optimist.”

“What can I say? It’s my first time out in a week. I want to do it all.”

She couldn’t help smiling at his frankness. “You like going fast, I see.”

“You bet.” He grinned back. In the boat, on the Vespa and flying. You must, too, since you like dueling.”

“I, er…” Why was he looking at her like that? Like he was poking for information? In the small space of the Sunfish, she could only turn away. “Do you want to take her around again?”

***

A hotshot duelist and a wanna-be sailor become entangled in a sailing race, lost dolphins, magical dueling…and the unsteady waters of love.
