It’s #BookQW and will Luna’s precious memories ‘fade’?

More from Chapter 5:

Eyes closed, Luna tried to push aside the arguments her sisters determinedly dredged up. Did she dare magically shut off her hearing to avoid the voices around the table?

“I’ve been asking you lasses what things of your mother’s you want,” her father was saying. “What we should store? What could go?”

Luna heard the sadness in Papa’s voice. Logically, she saw his point.

“My old toys,” Stella said. “My favorite books. That’s what you asked me about. Not cleaning up so snoopy old witches can prowl through our home.”

“We don’t want to get rid of anything,” Nebula ground out. “Especially not Mam’s things. Not her boots that I wear when I canna find my good ones!”

“No!” Stella shrieked, and Luna wanted to shout with her. Nebs did anyway, and Luna understood perfectly. Those boots leaked, just like Mam’s sweater was frayed, but Luna wouldn’t ever give up the memories it brought her when everyone else had gone to bed.

“We dinnae need the broken teacups, the outdated spices,” Papa said gently. “Even I have come to realize that when the things we use daily have no place. It’s…hard. I have nae wanted to let go of Celeste myself.”

Yet, when things Mam used were gone, would Luna’s memories of her also fade? The last time she remembered the lighthouse being open for tours was a dozen years ago. While Mam was still alive. Mam had loved giving tours and showing off their home and work.

“No one likes to clean,” he whispered. “Sometimes, it just has to be done. Aside from the excuse of the tours.”

The tours and the people. Luna didn’t like attention. She wanted quiet…the complete opposite of Salm. Then, do I want to be with him? That sense of not knowing what she wanted chewed through her again. I need this week with Salm. I need to know how we would be together for more than a few stolen hours over too few days. If she couldn’t make up her mind soon, she would lose Salm. And now Papa and his cursed promise threatened to take the choice out of her hands.
