Book Quote Wednesday ~ #luck on 5/6/2020

It’s #BookQW and Cor won’t trust his ‘luck’ to confide in Oy.

More from Chapter 22:

“Let’s hope I’m long gone by then,” Cor replied. “Or…” What was he saying?

“Really?” Oy asked. “You’re working like you want this. All that singing and such.”

“Heck, that was more of an automatic thought.” Cor snorted. “I do want this, but I’ve learned not to count on things, much as I hate it.” A cloistered enclave wasn’t likely to accept him… Light-skinned Oy might not understand that, but he’d definitely get not being accepted for being gay.

“Then you’re not inheriting any role in your family?”

“Flights, let’s hope not,” he blurted before remembering he still had to be careful with how much he said. “Er, that all goes to my older sister, if she chooses.”

Oyster began undoing his climbing knots. “Ash says he’ll be here soon, and it’s time for me to head home,” he said. “Lucky you with no family duties to keep you from singing your little heart out.”

No family duties—that was bloody funny. It was Wednesday. He had two days to finish this trial and be back in Bonterra by noon on Friday. If he wasn’t, there’d be hell to pay.

“You remembered something?” Oyster asked.

Cor grunted. “Just thinking of completing Lady Pina’s training and her test.”

“Your songs are coming along fine.”

“She passed me on her first hurdle—hard work—but I have some spiritual thing to pass.”

“Communing with the habitat? I think singing to the trees qualifies.” Oyster smiled as he coiled the rope.

“Drop it with the singing already,” he said firmly. “Isn’t that something every one of you do?”

Oy shook his head. “I swim in my habitat. Every day, regardless of the temperature. My magic stirs the sediments over the beds.”

“Huh.” He’d love to dish with Oy about magic, and if he asked to go with him to see the Estuary, he’d likely be invited. But Cor did have family duties. As much as he wanted to complete this trial, he had to be home for Hazel, which meant he had to arrange a way home with Fern. And, if he had to, confess to Lady Pina that he had responsibilities at home.

Hey, check this out!

Guardian of the Pines is available in 16 point font Large Print, along with The Witch of the Meadows. I got my proofs this week, and should be ordering the proofs of the other two novels in the Windborne Series this week.

Buy Guardian of the Pines online!

The Large Print paperbacks are available on B&N and Amazon, but are tricky to see. Either click my author name to see all books by this author or click ‘See all formats and editions’. It’s somewhat easier to search the title + Large Print Edition.

Want to read for free? Request the novels from your library! Both the ebook and print versions are available on Overdrive and Ingram Spark for library purchase.
