It’s #BookQW and Salm’s not ‘mad’, but possibly ‘angry’?

More from Chapter 11:

Salm disappeared down the corridor and returned with a quilt that he wrapped around Luna’s shoulders. He planted a quick kiss on her head before dropping into his seat again. She hugged the material to her. It smelled wind-fresh and lemony, like him.

“I canna stand to see you hugging yourself without something, and I ken you do nae want me right now, as I’m the one who got you into this eddy.”

She sighed. “It’s as much my fault as yours. I knew he’d be angry if he discovered us in Mam’s studio. I just thought…he wouldn’t.”

“I meant, I didn’t fall asleep.” Salm gave her a crooked smile. “Maybe drowsed a bit, so I didn’t hear him coming. Would’ve left if I had.”

“You weren’t asleep?”

“I wanted to take what time I could with you. And I already ken that you telling off your father and leaving home doesn’t change your desires to build a business. You won’t instantly decide to live on a boat because of this.”

Was he upset they hadn’t gone away? Or about her decision that she wasn’t ready to live aboard a boat with him? He didn’t look angry, but she was too flustered to read him right now. “Oh, Salm.”

“Answer me this: Did telling your father you were leaving feel right?”

She bit her lip. “I should be a good daughter and say no. But aye, it did. I’ve been going behind his back for too long, knowing that what I want to do isn’t what he wants for me. I can’t live his way, so it’s best I—” Her voice caught, and a tear rolled down her cheek.

“Set your own course,” Salm finished. “I can see you doing that. You’re a strong woman, Luna Ness. Obviously, if you’re willing to put up with me.”

Note*: Today’s #BookQW is actually #mad. In none of my novels do I use the word ‘mad’. My first series is set in Victorian times and then the meaning of ‘mad’ was insane. I couldn’t have characters accusing others–or themselves–of being insane so I used the term for the times–angry. Because The Windborne series is also set in a removed, traditional society, the lack of mad continued through both series.

I hope you’re having a not-angry day!
