It’s #BookQW and Coral hesitates a ’second’.

More from Chapter 5:

Coral backed toward the door. The stranger, slender and muscular, straightened to stand only inches taller than her five feet. He wore the dairy’s white work shirt and dungarees, but with a red bandanna capping his head like a pirate’s headgear. Dark brown locks escaped beneath the edging.

“I am—or was—stocking the refrigerator. Do you mind?” He pressed the crown of his head, his long face scrunched half in a scowl, half in a grimace of pain.

Their gazes locked, and the sight of his eyes silenced her. They were silver. Dark, glinty, silver eyes fixed steadily on hers. Oh, Orb curse it! Silver eyes meant silver energy. She glanced at the glowing mass frozen in midslide, bottle tops poking out at awkward angles.

Silver.

She’d never met a wizard with this type of energy. Through stories, she’d heard silver magic was usually secondary to another color of magic the wizard used daily. He hadn’t used another color for this emergency. Did that mean he didn’t have one? From the tales, silver wizards who had only the one energy often preyed upon the energy of other wizards. Purportedly, they favored the quick-reacting blue.

Like hers.

“Just who are you?” she blurted, before remembering she was quashed. No magic. She had nothing at her fingertips to defend herself. Then again, she had no magic for him to steal either.

He turned back to the refrigerator. “The guy thanking the Golden Orb I caught this mess, because there’s no more cream until tomorrow.” He shoved the gelled bottles onto the righted shelf and reabsorbed the substance with wiggling fingers, like it took some urging to break it into pure energy again.

Ohh, interesting. Coral drew closer and bumped the kneading table. How would that work in a duel? It was likely something she couldn’t combat, making this stranger dangerous. She backed up a few steps. She should leave…

I hope Coral and Ty’s story has caught your interest. I’m excited it caught the attention of the reader judges in the 2019 National Readers’ Choice Award contest, and they voted it a finalist. The winners will be announced July 18th in a Facebook event.
