From the Book Festival…

I had a fellow author post on my Instagram that she doesn’t have book festivals in her area. I didn’t take many photos other than the tent I shared with my friend, J. T. Bock, author of superpowered romances. But here’s a little taste of what the Gaithersburg Book Festival looked like at our corner!

I like to dress in my Victorian / steampunk riding costume for events–it’s what I imagine the Wellspring Collective owner, Mistress Constance Gere, wears in my The Luminated Threads novels. I spent several weeks finding and collecting the correct fashion parts and making the leather pouches (I have three). I detailed this in several posts: Dressing up like a Victorian Lady Part 1, Part 2: Accessories, Part 3: Jewelry and Such, Part 4: Reticules and other ways to carry things.

SInce I’m nearly the only person dressed as a character at this festival, I attract a lot of looks and have people asking to have their photo taken with me. It’s fun!

J. T. and I are on the left, with one of our fellow authors from Washington Romance Writers, a chapter of Romance Writers of America. Sally MacKenzie writes the ‘Naked Nobility’ series and was a guest speaker for the festival. This is one of the neat things about local book festivals–you run into authors your know or befriend new folks that you can trade resources with!
