Six on Saturday – Wintering Native Plants

Posted January 22, 2022 by Laurel Wanrow in My non-writing life, Nature, Writing / 0 Comments

I’m trying a post I’ve seen other gardeners make on Saturdays: a ‘Six on Saturday’ view of six items from my garden. It’s always six, not just plants, needs to be now-ish, verbiage is optional, and photos are a must.

For all the ins and outs, visit The Propagator’s Six on Saturday – A Participant Guide.

Because this is my first post for a hashtag with readers throughout the world, it might be helpful to note these are native plants to my location in Virginia, U. S., which is in the Mid-Atlantic region of North America.

Since I write so much, I’ll stick to the photos and simple identification of the plants I’ve been successful growing in my small, shady yard. Here we go!

(Chilly low of 15° this morning when I took these–the phone camera and my fingers weren’t too responsive!)

Aster seedhead.

Blue Wood Sedge, Carex flaccosperma (This is not lirope!)

Spore stalk of Sensitive Fern

Christmas Fern fronds

Joe Pye Weed leaves

Spicebush tree seedling

Thanks for visiting!
