It’s #BookQW and will a ‘race’ solve Ty’s problems in town?

More from Chapter 14:

Spike snorted. “Aye, Coral, perhaps you’ll have more luck teaching him to duel than to sail.”

Her eyes narrowed at the taunt. “Surely more luck than we’ve had teaching you to keep your mouth shut about…things.”

Desperate to stop this from escalating, Ty grasped her at the waist. “I think our sailing lessons are going quite well. Perhaps that’s the competition you’d like to take on?”

Everyone laughed—ridiculously hard—but the distraction broke them apart, and Coral flashed him a frown as Shrimp sidled up.

“Lad, I haven’t seen you duel, but I have seen you sail. Take on the duel.”

Curses, he wasn’t that bad. Ty brushed by, pulling Coral along to square off with Octo. “Do you always handle these things through”—they’d now said it—“dueling? Seems to take the adventure out of the challenge.”

Still laughing, Octo shook his head. “Ya are on, Yank. When?”

“How about this Fest regatta? I understand it’s a straight sailing race, no magic allowed. That should put us on even terms.”

“Aye, it should. The winner of the regatta, then, is entitled to Coral’s time first.”

“Agreed.” Ty stuck out his hand, though the guy seemed too happy for this to be smart.

Eyes wide, Coral batted it down. “I am not the prize.”

“A place in line with ya is the prize,” Octo said.

“What if someone else wins?” Ty asked.

Octo had a quick answer. “Whichever of us fares better. Ya never know who’ll come to regatta at Fest, so that’s the only way to handle it.”

“And what if I win?” Spike said. “She’ll be back to dueling me.”

Octo frowned. “Nay, make yer own deal. This one’s mine.” He stuck out his hand, and deftly avoiding Coral, Ty met it.
