On the 35th Day of Shutdown, things got turned around…

That was Friday (I’ve been at two events since). Work resumes on Monday for our furloughed employees. Yay, with a bit of wariness…we’ll see.

In the meantime, I hope this brings many people relief. It has for us. Dare I say, stay tuned for the next installment?

My fun news: Friday, I volunteered at our guinea pig rescue booth at the World of Pet Expo…however, Metropolitan Guinea pig Rescue didn’t have fosters there because of set up & Friday is always cold. (See them today if you go to Timonium, MD!) That ‘forced’ me to spend time watching the turtle rescuer across the aisle walk her Sulcata tortoise.

What a treat! She’s with Mid-Atlantic Turtle & Tortoise Society, who had a great display and lots of volunteer opportunities for turtle enthusiasts. See more photos on my Instagram @laurelwanrowauthor

Of course, I had to visit the bunnies and parrots, too!

On Saturday, McKay’s Used Books hosted me for a Meet & Greet with a Local Author at their store in Manassas, VA.

Happy readers swamped the huge space that offers more than books. I managed to leave with buying only one book–and it was for my son! Photo is thanks to a dear writer friend stopping by–thanks, Karen! If you do these events as a little-known author, it’s so nice to see friends.

In writing news, I have the copy edits back on Guardian of the Pines and will dig in on Monday! I showed off the cover at my event, but I’m still toying with when and how to release the novel. If you missed my comments a few weeks into the shutdown, I’d planned to release 3 YAs in a ‘rapid release’ to garner attention in the ‘Zon algorithms, but the uncertainty of our family’s income has made me pull back.

Stay tuned!
