It’s #BookQW and tough Coral is ‘unbelievable’!

More from Chapter 33:
“Fine, have your say, but not tonight, not this weekend,” Coral said, her pleasant tone breaking the awkward silence. “Let’s set a time for early in the week.”
“A good plan,” Tiger interjected. “Spike, Wednesday is soon enough to address this. We have guests who wish to get on to the fun of the evening.”
A chorus of ayes followed his suggestion.
“Seems the majority agree,” Spike finally snarled. He half turned, then whipped back around and hurled a shockball.
A ball of silver slammed Spike’s red blast two feet from Coral, showering her with sparks. Through them shot two more balls of silver. Almost simultaneously, they hit, and Spike’s body flashed a blinding white.
Seconds ticked by. The arena was dead silent.
Flights! She’d blasted as fast as Ty had, apparently ambidextrously. The townspeople’s warnings came back to him—he didn’t know who he was dealing with.
The glow on Spike dimmed, and a few red sparks fell from his clenched hand, but he didn’t move. Paralyzed.
A low murmur commenced.
Before anyone could notice, Ty absorbed the second shockball at his hand and checked the crowd. Shrimp met his gaze and smiled as he lowered his arm. He started forward, so Ty did likewise.
The two flanked Coral’s diminutive frame as she looked up at Spike. Besides Lemon staring openmouthed several feet away, they were the only ones close enough to hear her say, “Do not dare pull that kind of stunt on me again.” Stepping around him, she brushed his arm with hers and sucked off the silver energy as she walked past him.
Spike stumbled, but turned and followed her into a cluster of Tern Bay duelists, who all hastily cleared their faces of expression.
“Good evening, everyone,” Coral said evenly.
Then Coral, with—unbelievable—Spike at her side, made the rounds of the groups, welcoming the visitors, introducing themselves to everyone and making small talk with the other leaders. By the time they reached the last group, a gaggle of young wizards trailed them. As soon as Coral and Spike finished their greeting, the tweens circled them.
No, circled Coral.

On a personal note:
Unbelievable, our Book Quote Wednesday word, is most appropriate for what is happening in the United States these days. I would be remiss if I didn’t take this opportunity to state that I do not support the horrors our administration has brought to immigrants and citizens.
Yes, I write books, and this is a website about books and writing. However, it’s hard to delve into those cozy fantasy worlds when we’re living in dystopia. I never wanted to be political, but I can no longer stay silent. Silence makes these actions seem normal.
Nothing about this is normal.
Everyone deserves to be treated humanely.
I hope you agree. If you feel you need to unfollow me, please do.
