This will be a short post–because I don’t have the answer.
But I’ve been thinking more about the crisis nature is in for months, plus this morning on Twitter I saw an NPR news post that the U.S. is formally pulling out of the Paris Climate Agreement.
Ugh. (and what next?) Ironically, opportune news for Voting Day. (we have primaries in my state)
Folks we need to act! Let your voices be heard with your votes.
But then come home and match your actions to your votes: reduce your footprint and increase your help to nature.
Any number of ideas can be found on Pinterest by searching ‘Save the Planet’. I collected a few starters into my Earth Messages board.
Likely, if you grew up in the 70s or have paid attention to saving resources, you have seen most of these. However, periodically a new one pokes me in a new direction. I’m now avoiding plastic-wrapped produce, like the thin-skinned cucumbers and bagged avocados.
I followed one link to the Eco Warrior Princess’ blog and read her excellent post on How I saved Money By Going Zero Waste
Another I researched myself after a relative and I were discussing composting and she said food waste in landfills added a huge amount to our global warming. I searched and found the 52 Weeks For Earth website and week 14’s post: Food in Landfills.
Indeed, the article says 20% of landfill’s bulk is food, and “In fact, landfills account for 34 percent of all methane emissions in the U.S.”
Why we not eating that food, is one issue, but the second is composting should be more routine than it is. The article goes on to list ways to deal with food waste.
I’m going to end with that, because I’d like to talk more about my experience with composting and don’t have the time today. Please feel free to comment on your eco-ideas or findings. Many of us are at a place of feeling helpless and it helps to share ideas and plans.
And vote, please!
