It’s #BookQW and we have to prepare for a new release!

Lost Whisperer of the Seas is set in the Irish Sea surrounding the Isle of Giuthas and on the coast of Scotland, where the Seas family manages the fisheries for the isle. Coral has made a brief appearance in the series already, but Ty is a newcomer from an American enclave.

The novel is full of sailing, magical dueling and dolphin whispering. Here’s an excerpt from Chapter 12:

A half hour later they climbed onto a larger sailboat than the Sunfish he and Coral had taken out yesterday. Luna joined them and took the helm of her family’s boat, the Midnight Marauder. It had a mainsail and a jib, like he’d used on the 420 sailboat at home, but was several feet longer, so nicely sized for four.

“Ty, would you prepare for our departure?” Luna asked, as if he sailed with her all the time.

He glanced at Coral to get her reaction. She was his sailing tutor and he did not want to mess that up—things had been going too well. They hadn’t talked today and her manner was still standoffish. Only because he’d been late? He couldn’t be certain he hadn’t missed something last night. Their conversation had ended okay, hadn’t it?

With a bit of an eye roll, she pointed to the leeside—where he knew he was to sit—and reached down to take a line, the jib sheet, and pass it to him.

Spells, he did not look that incompetent. Seconds later Coral sat beside him—their lifejackets almost touching—clearly planning to back him up. He followed Luna’s directions without help, regaining his pride. Out on the open ocean, appearing stupid rewarded him: the hull bounced with the waves and Coral slid against him.

Whoa! His energy jumped. Ty let it surge as they raced forward. The wind cooled his flushed face quickly in their growing speed, though his thigh against hers was plenty warm. He kept his gaze on the horizon, his fingers clenching the jib sheet and his ear tuned to Luna’s directions. This promised to be an exciting ride.

Salm draped himself along the wide bow, binoculars trained on the horizon. “A little to port,” he said waving an arm. “I scouted them earlier and asked them to remain between the first headland and the end of the Isle of Giuthas. They were herding a school of tuna they didn’t want to lose, with the young’uns and all.”

Someone was netting fish then? He’d thought this trip had something to do with marine life, but perhaps another boat was waiting? He couldn’t see it from here.

“Affirmative.” Luna made the adjustment. “Ty? You can take the helm and the mainsheet now that we’re clear of the bay.”

Well, here went nothing. While Luna shuffled closer to Salm, Ty performed the first zigzag tack maneuvers to sail upwind. He issued direction calls to Coral as she handled the jib and he manned the mainsail and tiller. She responded promptly, giving the appropriate calls back, and they sped out to sea.
