It’s #BookQW and my H&H are a ‘scream’ trying to sail together!

More from chapter 10:

Hastily, Coral checked their position. On the last trip around she’d warned Ty not to get so close to South Dock because the prevailing winds could blow them into the posts. But he’d done fine.

“Ready,” she answered.

He stared at the dock, focusing on his tacks.

Why’d he have to go and touch her? It had been just a toe-touch, but what did it mean when he touched her like that and no flirt of energy passed? Even without magic, that touch messed up her insides and set them fluttering. It was a good thing they were sailing and she had to stay on her side of the boat, with the tiller between them.

The Sunfish sailed parallel to South Dock. A number of townsfolk hung over the railing watching their progress, the sole craft on the water, including Pearl and Shrimp, and—

She groaned. “How did they get off near the dinner hour?”

“Who?”

She jerked her gaze from the two blonds draped over the railing. “Spi—Marlin and Lemon are watching us. At the end of the dock near the tavern. Kitchen whites, blond hair?”

Ty squinted at the figures, Spike now leaning his head close to Lemon’s tousled yellow mop.

“Will they give you a hard time about being out with a landlubber?”

“No.” Because she wouldn’t be around for Spike to pick on her. And if Lemon knew what was good for him, he’d say naught to her for weeks to come. Yet, just then their gazes met. She didn’t look away, and neither did he. Huh. Couldn’t read him. Long seconds passed as they sailed closer, and then he gave her a nod and turned to Spike. The two straightened from the rail.

There’d been no smirk. Lemon had yielded. Left even, his break probably over. Her breath released.

“You don’t have to lie to me,” Ty said. “Take satisfaction that you’ve ridden on my scooter. The guys are dying to and won’t ask.”

Really? This was too good, especially on top of Lemon backing off. She grinned in spite of promises. “Aye, and where would he be putting his hands?”

“Not on my body. It’s reserved. Ready about?”

Reserved? Could he mean…no, not for her? Flights, that would be—

Ready about? She jerked around.

Spells, they were close enough to shore. What was she doing with her head in the clouds with a beginner at the helm? Suppose she couldn’t call him that anymore. Ty hadn’t been daydreaming like she had, and this second round his skills shone through.

“Ready,” she answered.

Ty shifted the tiller.

Just who was his body reserved for? He probably meant he had a partner, darn—

Whoosh! A gust hit them from the leeward side, the shore, and the sail ballooned with wind.

“What the—” Ty let loose of the sail and tiller. Still, the boat tilted. His weight—on what had been the correct side of the boat—added to the list.

Coral stretched her slight frame as far off the deck as she could, but the boat pitched farther. Too late, Ty scrambled to join her.

The deck rose to vertical. Ty plunged in. The sail followed. As she plummeted, Coral automatically tried to hover herself. It didn’t work.

“Eeeeeeeeeeee!” she screamed and, for the first time in years, fell in.
