It’s #BookQW – and the ‘wait’ is over for my H&H to make a move.

More from Chapter 11:

Ty scrambled up to sit opposite her. “Geez,” he muttered. “I never would have thought you could do it, as skin—petite as you are.” He grabbed the mainsheet and tiller and steered them toward the dock.

She sniffed. “Leverage. Same way you flipped the boat. You just have to know what you’re doing.”

“Apparently, you do. Thanks for being such a sport about the dunking. I appreciate you taking it all human-style. I was afraid you’d started doing some sort of magic sailing shortcuts on me. Since that’s not the way I learned, it would have thrown me off.”

From her seat, Coral searched Ty’s face. Was he really ignoring the obvious—she didn’t use magic because she couldn’t? She was all about magic, as everyone who kept telling her to limit it knew.

Everyone, meaning the adults. Other wizard teens didn’t care. Especially the boys. Wouldn’t Ty be like them once he saw her energy? If the tales about silver wizards were true, that made him an odd one to speak up for avoiding magic. Especially after he’d done all that pereporting around last night. What was with him?

At least she had a reasonable excuse to not use magic. “Pop insists we sail like the rest of the world.”

“Your brother suggested I magic in.”

A growing breeze cut through her soaked clothes, turning her shrug into a shiver. “Right. Pop’s not always with us, but we sail correctly, or can. It’s required for competition, since wizards have varying degrees of power. It wouldn’t do to have magic be the determining factor in a sailing race.”

“Sir Porbeagle mentioned a regatta during Autumnal Fest, but I didn’t see a time on the schedule.”

Wrapping her arms around her middle, she huddled into her life vest. “They wait to decide the day based on the best weather.”

“That doesn’t give the competitors much time to prepare, much less hear about it.”

“Word gets around fast in a small community. You’re either ready, or you’re not. It’s better to have a decent wind than none.” She waved a hand at their half-filled sail.

His lips twitched. “What do you suggest?”

“You’re at the helm.”

A laugh burst from Ty, and her heart leaped. Flights! He positively sparkled. A twinkling silver energy twittered around him, and Coral found herself grinning despite her earlier intention. This is what it’s supposed to feel like. With this boy, I could do…the things Lemon wanted to do.

Maybe.

Ty’s outburst subsided into a chuckle. “Ah, Coral, spoken like a—”

“Sailor,” she inserted and with an impish grin added, “Now show me your stuff, sailor boy.”

He grinned back.

Spells! Had she meant to flirt? Calm, calm, just ride it out. She ducked behind the mainsail to hide her smile, and Ty turned his attention to sailing.
