It’s #BookQW and Fern’s young mother fought for her!

More from Chapter 11:
Fern sighed. “I asked, and Mom says she’ll never go back to where she grew up. She loves her work.”
“But she kept the magic safe.” Beri shrugged one shoulder. “Having it within reach again seriously changes things. If she won’t return… You are her natural-born child, correct?”
“Well, I haven’t had a DNA test, but yeah, she’s mentioned giving birth to me, and her worst lecture ever was ‘Don’t get pregnant.’ She had me at twenty-two”—which was way too young—“and they fought”—over me—“and split up. Having me changed her life.” Fern had pieced half of this together.
Beri leaned in. “She’s changed life on the Isle of Giuthas for many people. She took you and the magic and walked away from here, from her family, from her responsibilities.”
Fern leaned in, too, her words low and firm. “She gutted her youth working on this isolated land. Never went to college or dated other guys and was being forced into work she didn’t want to do. Finally, she did something for herself and chose a career she loves.”
“I’m nearly in my eighteenth year, younger than she was,” Beri said, defiance edging his voice. “Growing up in my world, in our settlement, you learn your place early on. You work to your potential. You do what is expected of you to help the community.”
“Or you leave!” Fern threw up her hands. He didn’t understand how passionate Mom was, how art-crazy and spacy about mundane stuff that didn’t involve nature and art. “You leave it all behind and move on to run your own life. The life you truly want to live.”
“Her one decision does nae mean she has to stay away.” He blew out his breath.

On a writing note:
I’m revising my next story in The Windborne series: The Sage of the Forest. I’m excited to see Raven and Willow’s story coming together, since they are major secondary characters in The Witch of the Meadows. It will be book 5 and I hope to have it out this coming year.
