It’s #BookQW and Cor isn’t sure how he’ll ‘win’.

More from Chapter 16:
Cor pulled out his mobile, opened a note and began typing what she’d said.
“Put that away,” Lady Pina snapped.
“But to remember—”
“I’ll teach you. Every morning. You will practice. Every afternoon. My third requirement is that your spiritual presence must be fully invested in this place. Not seeking recognition, other training, the urge to travel or what have you. You cannot be unsettled in any way to work with these vast energy reserves. Organisms of this size will win every time, and their massive energy will remain deep in their cores when it is otherwise needed to circulate and fuel the isle. Now”—she paused and eyed him—“do you wish to attempt to meet my requirements?”
Cor swallowed. “I-I love trees. I would be honored to train and stay.”
The way Lady Pina continued staring, he wasn’t sure that had been the right response.
Then she grunted. “For someone who displays a protective energy that mimics the vascular tissue of trees, the last requirement shouldn’t be too difficult. I’ll see you here tomorrow morning.”
Tomorrow? Oh blast. He should say yes. He should… “I, uh, can we make it the next day?”
One gray brow lifted.
“I’ve got five more areas to prep and plant that I’ve promised to the Meadows.” He pulled the map from his pocket, unfolded it and held it out. “Lady Lark is off repairing some rip, and Fern has her human studies. They haven’t…” Brilliant, this was becoming a bluster of excuses. He should just shut up and say yes. He frowned at the map, unable to meet her gaze. “I promised to finish.”
